Nuclear Energy: Organisation to prioritize girl-child education

The poor mentoring of women in Nuclear and radiation applications in Nigeria have been identified by advocates in science and other fields as a major contributor to low numbers of representatives in the sector.


The women made this known in Abuja at the inaugural launch and symposium of Women In Nuclear Energy, Nigeria.


Speakers at the Women in Nuclear Nigeria inaugural launch and symposium say there is a need to prioritize girl-child education in rural areas across the country to increase the youth’s participation of women in nuclear and radiation applications.


The inaugural launch and symposium are expected to lay the foundation to encourage Nigerian women and girls to develop interests in Nuclear Science, Technology, engineering, and related fields, following statistics by the UNESCO institutes of statistics, UIS, data that less than 30% of the world scientists are women.

Nigeria now joins Morocco, Egypt, and South Africa as the 4th country in Africa to be among the 130 countries of women in Nuclear across the globe.


The theme for the event is, “Advancing The Role Of Women In Nuclear energy and Radiation Applications”.
