A new set of leaders has been elected to pilot the affairs of the Kwara State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ for the next 3 years.
The National Vice President in charge of North-Central Zone, Wilson Bako who supervised the election said it was keenly contested between 4 chairmanship aspirants. They are Dare Akogun of Sobi FM who got 72 votes while Abdulateef Ahmed of the Herald Newspaper polled 85 votes to emerge winner of the election. Other chairmanship aspirants, Babajide Fadeyi of the Federal Information secured 31 votes while the incumbent Chairman, Umar Abdulwahab of the Blueprint newspaper scored 16 votes.
Speaking shortly after the exercise, the newly elected Chairman, Abdulateef Ahmed, and others said the welfare of practising journalists in the State will be his priority as he has lined up activities to also revive competitiveness amongst them.
Other members of the Union who participated in the election said they were satisfied with the exercise as it was conducted in a free and fair manner.

Meanwhile, the Kwara State Governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq through a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaiye congratulated the newly elected Chairman and other executives describing the outcome of the election as a victory for every member of the pen profession who should come together to join the government to set agenda for improved socio-economic development of the State.
