The anti-labour posture of Chevron Nigeria Limited and its service contractors is brewing yet another potential crisis in the oil and gas industry.
The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG has described the unilateral termination of the services of 175 contract workers from one of Chevron’s service contractors as psychological traumatic.

Seriously pained by the disengagement done via WhatsApp to the individual phones of the workers, NUPENG says it is an affront to the county’s labour laws and a violation to International conventions and global best practices.
Given this infraction and other lingering issues, the Union is demanding a recall of the sacked workers and proper engagement with the labour body.
It has therefore issued a 7-day ultimatum to Chevron to address the issues or they will be forced to embark on a nationwide industrial action.
