Leadership of the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG has threatened to escalate nationwide on an ongoing industrial action being carried out by members at the local branch level.
The Union alleges that the management of Valiant Energy West Africa has plans to use armed security agencies to forcefully evacuate workers from a Shell rig because their services will no longer be required from October 17, 2020.

Valiant Energy Services is an oil service company to Shell Petroleum Development Company, SPDC Nigeria Ltd, drilling on Borr Friggs rig. It is alleged that the Company wants to defraud the workers by refusing to pay their terminal benefits on completion of her contract with Shell by the middle of October.
It will be recalled that the same company sacked 39 workers in 2019 and is yet to pay their terminal benefits.
NUPENG has reiterated its disappointment in SPDC as the oil giant it remained silent and indifferent to the continued posture of one of her service companies.
