The leadership of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, Niger State Wing has directed its members to commence a “sit at home” order, once the December salary is paid on percentage.

The directive is a resolution of the State Executive Council, at the end of its meeting in Minna, the Niger State Capital.

The Chairman of the Union, Adamu Akayago, told journalists that the payment of teachers salaries in the state has been on for some months.

He explained that the salary payment on percentage has further exposed teachers to more hardships as their total take-home pay can not meet their needs.

The NUT leader further stressed that no clause in the labour law justifies payment of salaries on percentage due to economic crisis.

He reiterated that the “sit-at-home” order starts from the moment salaries are paid on percentage until their demands are met.
