The Emir of Katsina, Abdulmuminu Usman, has described the National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, as the only surviving Federal Government Project, among so many others that were established in the 70s, 80s and 90s still contributing to national unity.

The emir said this when he was receiving in the audience, the Katsina State Coordinator of the scheme, Aisha Muhammad in his palace.

The visit by the Katsina NYSC team to the palace is contained in a statement by the Public Relations Officer, Alex Obemiata.

According to the statement, the emir called on the Federal Government of Nigeria to continue to support the NYSC Scheme, since it is the only project that is sustaining national unity and integration.

He disclosed that he served in the scheme in Sokoto State as a Youth Corps member in the 80s, and observed that he enjoyed his service year with dedication and selflessness, unlike what is happening today.

The emir, however, promised to continue supporting the scheme in his capacity as the traditional head of Katsina Emirate Council, and assured the State Coordinator of adequate security of lives and property of Corps members and staff, serving in his domain.

The State Coordinator, Aisha Muhammad, told the Royal Father that she was in the palace to present herself to the emir for his prayers and blessings.

While thanking the Emir for his fatherly role in the scheme, she equally, requested support from the traditional institution, for the smooth operation of the NYSC, as well as, the provision of a conducive atmosphere for the Corps members to operate in Katsina.
