The first Council of State meeting under the administration of President Bola Tinubu holds at the Presidential Villa Abuja, the nation’s capital.
Former Heads of State present at the meeting include Generals Yakubu Gowon and Abdulsalami Abubakar who joined virtually while former President Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari are physically present.
Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, Ex-Military President Ibrahim Babangida and Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki are absent.

The Council which membership includes former Presidents, their deputies, present and former Chief Justices of the Federation, Senate President and House Speaker with 36 State Governors has the constitutional responsibility of advising a sitting President in respect of national issues.

It will be recalled that the Council acted during the COVID-19 pandemic and #EndSARS protest.
Meanwhile, the Council at the end of its meeting hanked Nigerians for resisting what they call sinister moves by some undemocratic forces to cause an unconstitutional change of government, during the recent #EndBadGovernance protests in parts of the country.
The Council, consisting of former Heads of State and Presidents, Ex-Chief Justices of Nigeria, current Senate President, House of Representatives Speaker and State Governors, also passed a vote of confidence on the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
Addressing State House Correspondents after the meeting, which was held behind closed doors for several hours, Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Dele Ayake said the Council was satisfied with the administration of President Tinubu and went ahead to pass a vote of confidence on the incumbent.
Alake told reporters that the elder statesmen also reviewed the recent #EndBadGovernance protests in the country, and appreciated security agencies and citizens for resisting attempts by some deviants to force a regime change.
Governor of Kwara State and Chairman of Nigerian Governors Forum, Abdul Rahman AbdulRazaq, who joined the briefing session, said state chief executives have resolved to work with the Federal Government, in efforts to forge national growth and economic prosperity.
Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, revealed that the government is doing more to alleviate the suffering of the citizens.
