The Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has announced a compensation plan of N100 million for victims of Sunday’s fire incident at Ekiosa Market in Benin City, the state capital.

Governor Godwin Obaseki made this known while on an on-the-spot assessment visit to ascertain the level of damage done by the inferno.

The Governor who was visibly upset about the loss of livelihoods by most of the traders attributed the inferno to arson which he linked to the current political crises rocking the state.

He also announced that his administration working with the police and other security agencies will take over the security of markets in the State.

The Governor also visited the property of the Edo Development and Property Authority, EDPA, whose top floor was also gutted by the fire.

Most of the traders are yet to come to terms with their losses as goods worth millions of naira are said to have been lost in the incident.
