Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki has flagged off a pilot phase of his ‘feed the hungry’ initiative for vulnerable persons through the State Chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN.
The inauguration of this pilot phase which targets sixty thousand families in the first instance and to cost over one billion naira monthly is will be done at the Chancery of the Catholic Archdiocese of Benin and be extended to the Muslim community in the state.
In a bid to cushion effects of the current economic challenges on residents of Edo State, Governor Godwin Obaseki on Saturday flagged off the pilot phase of his initiative tagged “feed the hungry”.
This initiative will be executed by the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN and the church.
Archbishop of the Benin Archdiocese, Augustine Akubeze and Chairman of CAN, Irekpono Omoike have lauded the gesture.
Governor Obaseki says the initiative is designed to feed those who cannot cater for themselves as they grapple with economic difficulties.
Thereafter, the Governor met with imams across the state for a similar programme.
The Imams used the opportunity to present an award to Obaseki as the hajj friendly Governor in southern Nigeria.
