Obidient Movement, which is the support group of former Labour Party, LP Presidential candidate, Peter Obi has officially launched a nationwide civic mobilisation campaign titled “A New Nigeria is Possible – Get Your PVC & GO MERD.”

The initiative was unveiled in Abuja to galvanise millions of Nigerians ahead of the 2027 general elections. The Movement’s National Coordinator, Yunusa Tanko said it is a bold move to reshape Nigeria’s political landscape

The campaign’s acronym, GO MERD, stands for Get Organised – Make Election Rigging Difficult. It signals a strategic shift in the Obidient Movement’s focus – moving from broad political advocacy to building on-the-ground electoral infrastructure aimed at increasing participation and safeguarding the democratic process.

The movement is calling on its supporters to take concrete steps from door-to-door registration drives, to helping fellow citizens obtain their Permanent Voter Cards, PVCs, and organising neighbourhood voting blocs. The campaign also plans to recruit 1,500 values-driven candidates to run for public office under the Obidient platform.

According to the movement, the campaign is grounded in a vision of a reimagined Nigeria – one where good governance is driven by accountability, equity, and opportunity for all. It outlines priorities such as food security, functional healthcare, access to quality education, improved rural infrastructure, economic freedom, and inclusivity for women and the diaspora.
