Ogun Flood Alert: 16 Council Areas on Watch List in 2025 Prediction

It is predicted that 16 out of the 20 Local Government Areas in Ogun State in Southwest Nigeria are to experience floods between the months of March and November 2025.

The State Commissioner for Environment, Ola Oresanya, who disclosed this at the 2025 Flood Alert stakeholders engagement in Abeokuta said the Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NIMET) has identified Ogun State as one of the major flood-prone areas in the country.

The Yearly Flood Alert Forum was organized by the State Ministry of Environment to inform residents, farmers, and stakeholders about flood management.

The 16 Local Government Areas likely to experience the heavy floods include; Ijebu Ode, Ota, Owode, Abeokuta, amongst other areas where the authorities have advised that residents should prepare ahead of the natural occurrence.

Commissioner Oresanya said farmers in the State are already being guided on weather information, with a call for them to follow rainfall predictions.

Oresanya who also advised residents against indiscriminate waste dumping, called on motorists to exercise caution when driving through flooded areas.
