The Ogun State Police Command has announced that it has made a significant breakthrough in its fight against child trafficking, rescuing seven children and arresting five suspects involved in a baby sales racket for 1.5 million naira per child.
The Ogun State Commissioner of Police Lanre Ogunlowo who disclosed this at the state police headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta explained that the operation was carried out by the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department, targeting an orphanage facility in Badagry where the children were being held.
The rescued children, aged between 6 and 9, were allegedly sold for ₦1.5 million each.
The suspects, including Joy Chiedozie, the operator of the orphanage, and Yusuf Adebowale, a driver were said to have confessed to the crime.

In the cause of the operation of the facility, two pregnant women, Tanimola Martins and Favour Martins, were also discovered at the facility, revealing they were recruited to carry pregnancies for sale for the sum of 1.5 million naira.
The commissioner of Police said the police have launched an investigation to apprehend other suspects, including Emmanuel, who allegedly bought one of the children.
The rescued children have been handed over to the Ogun State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development for care and family tracing
