About 20 coastal communities in Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State are protesting against adverse effect of oil spillage that have ravaged the area.
The residents whose only means of livelihood is fishing, want government and the oil companies that allegedly caused the spillage to come to their aid.
The journey from Igbokoda, the headquarter of Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State, to the 20 communities affected by the oil spillage including Ayetoro is about 45 minutes.
For about a month now, it is no longer business as usual for the people, as their only source of livelihood, has been affected by the oil spillage.
The water they drink has also been contaminated, leaving them at the mercy of people from other towns for access to drinking water.
Residents of the affected communities blamed the situation on the oil companies operating in their locality.
They are seeking compensation to cushion the effect of the damage caused by the oil spillage.
Meanwhile the Ondo State Government says it has commenced investigation into the spillage incident.
It is hoped that the plight of people of the affected communities, will be addressed in no distance time.
