Nigeria’s House Of Representatives has on Wednesday, resolved to investigate the setting ablaze of an oil vessel, allegedly involved in oil theft in Delta State, by the Nigerian military.
This followed a Matter Of Urgent Importance by a lawmaker representing Etinam/Nsit Ibom Federal Constituency, Luke Onofiok, calling the attention of his colleagues to the matter.
The lawmaker noted that the said oil vessel should have been tendered as evidence for the prosecution, instead of the destruction of the vessel by security operatives.
Meanwhile, the Deputy Speaker of the House, Idris Wase who presided over plenary, said the leadership of the House is in support of the steps that are aimed at ending oil theft, due to its devastating effect on the country’s economy.
The said vessel was caught last week with illegal crude oil by a private security firm,Tanitaa Security Services Limited in Delta State, and was set ablaze by the Nigerian military in Warri.
