The Speaker, Edo State House of Assembly, Frank Okiye, has expressed sadness over the passing of former Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, Zakawanu Garuba.
In a statement issued Sunday morning, the Speaker said he received with grieving heart, the shocking news of the demise of Zakawanu Garuba, former Speaker of Edo State House of Assembly who died on Saturday.
He said the death of the former speaker of Edo State House of Assembly is a great loss to all Edo lawmakers and it has created a vacuum not only to his immediate families but to the entire people of Edo State.
“Indeed, he will be remembered for his honesty, patience, and perseverance as some of his attributes. He left an indelible mark of uncommon leadership in the Edo State House of Assembly as the former Speaker, which culminated in the passage of bills and Resolutions that has transformed the State.”

Okiye prayed that God grants his family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
Garuba was elected into the Edo State House of Assembly in 2003, on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP. While in the House, he served as Chairman of the House Committee on Judiciary, Human Rights, and Legal Matters. He became Speaker in 2007.
