Delta State Governor Senator Ifeanyi Okowa and Vice Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Senator Ifeanyi Okowa says to check flooding in the country, the Federal government should build new dams and desist major rivers in the country to accommodate waters released from dams in neighbour countries.
Governor Okowa who made this call while Fielding questions from journalists after visiting flood victims at some Internally Displaced Persons, IDP, Camps in the state specifically listed River Niger and River Benue as the rivers that need immediate desilting to accommodate high volume of flood water.
Governor Okowa visited the camps at Ogbe-Afor Primary School, Oneh Primary School in Asaba and Ewulu Mixed Grammar School in Aniocha South and concludes that the best way to end the loss of lives and valuables to flood is for government to take proactive steps that will halt the perennial flooding that comes with opening of dams by neighbouring countries.
While commiserating with the flood victims and families that lost their loved ones, Okowa said daily feeding the IDPs will be prioritised and their medical needs to avoid outbreak of diseases.

The governor said if PDP emerges victorious in 2023 election, construction of dams and desilting of River Niger and that of Benue will be uppermost in their agenda.
From all indication, life in the IDP camps in Delta camp could be seen as normal communal living as their women in groups cook for themselves as government ensures regular provision of food items.
The Caregivers in their midst handle emergency cases while children at school age busy receiving lessons from teachers, though in an improvised classroom in Ogbe-Afor.
