The Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori has cautioned traditional rulers in the State not to shield any person suspected to be involved in the killing of 17 Army personnel in Okuama community of Ughelli South Local Government Area, Delta State in the South South region of Nigeria.
Governor Oborevwori who gave the warning while addressing traditional rulers, on the unfortunate killing, described the act as barbaric and alien to Delta State people.
The Governor vowed that the perpetrators of the crime must face the full wrath of the law, while warning that any traditional ruler who tries to shield a criminal would be inviting trouble to himself.
At the meeting which took place at the State Traditional Rulers Council Secretariat in Asaba, Governor Oborevwori recalled an earlier meeting of 7th February, 2024 at the instance of the people of Okoloba and Okuama communities, including their representatives at the State House of Assembly, their Council Chairmen and their President-Generals where the two communities signed a Peace Accord.
According to the Governor, the news of the killing of the Army Officers and soldiers therefore came to him as a rude shock that he immediately put calls across to the National Security Adviser, the Chief of Defence Staff and followed by a Press release in that regard.
The Delta State Governor who advised the traditional rulers to engage their subjects on the dangers of crisis, warned them not to play politics with the incident as efforts should be made to ensure that no innocent person will be punished.
Chairman of the Delta State Traditional Rulers Council, His Royal Majesty, Maj. Gen. Felix Mujakperuo (Rtd.) on behalf of the Council promised to assist the Governor to ensure that peace and security regn in the State.
Governor Oborevwori who also briefed the State Advisory and Peace Building Council, urged them to talk to people on the need to maintain peace for the overall growth and development of Delta State.
