Tough time awaits any broadcast organisation that may promote sensational reportage and also heat up the polity, ahead of the October 10 governorship election in Ondo State.
The Acting Director-General of the National Broadcasting Commission, NBC, Prof. Armstrong Idachaba, gave the warning in Akure, the state capital, at a stakeholders’ meeting on political broadcast with just 40 days to the election.
At the workshop in Akure, the NBC wants broadcast organisations to play by the rules and stick to the ethics of the profession.
The commission also urged broadcast journalists to avoid sensationalism before, during, and after the poll.
The broadcasting regulatory body also expressed concern over politicians disregard for COVID-19 protocols at political gatherings ahead of the election.
