The Federal University of Technology Teaching Hospital, Akure, says it is working to establish a special support mechanism to help subsidise medical bills for patients who need financial assistance, as part of efforts to cushion the impact of the rising cost of healthcare in the country.
The Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Professor Olusegun Ojo, made this known while addressing journalists at the weekend in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
Professor Ojo explained that the hospital plans to collaborate with non-governmental organisations to mobilise funds for the treatment of patients suffering from severe and life-threatening illnesses.
He also dismissed reports suggesting that the facility is facing a critical shortage of medical personnel.
According to him, the hospital has introduced measures such as engaging contract staff and visiting consultants to strengthen its workforce.
Professor Ojo added that the hospital is also expanding its operational capacity to enable available personnel to deliver services more efficiently and improve patient care.
