The Nigeria Police has concluded plans to deploy 33,723 officers to maintain peace and ensure hitch-free conduct of Saturday’s governorship election in Ondo State.
The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu stated this during a stakeholders meeting organised by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Monday.
The Police Chief said his command has identified a few flashpoints in the state; warning those planning to disrupt the exercise to desist; stressing that
33,723 officers will be on the ground to secure lives and property throughout the electoral process.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Yakubu Mahmood reaffirmed his agency’s commitment to delivering a free, fair, and credible election.
He said INEC has met 12 of the necessary steps for the smooth conduct of the election; adding that sensitive materials including card readers will be deployed as scheduled for the election.
INEC and the Nigerian police called for the support of all critical stakeholders particularly politicians in the State for a violence free exercise.
