Ahead of the November 16, 2024 Ondo State off cycle governorship election, women in the State have placed their card on the table, demanding that all the Political parties participating in the polls should seriously consider a female as Deputy for Gender balance and inclusiveness.
This is the thrust of a communique issued at the inaugural meeting of Ondo State Women Group in Akure, the Ondo State capital on Thursday .
The women drawn from various professional fields from the eighteen Local Government Areas of the State converged to work out strategies for the political survival of the female folk in Ondo State.
According to them, since 1999 when Nigeria transitioned from military rule to democratic governance, women are yet to occupy up to 15% of elective position in Nigeria.
They argued that despite the enormous contributions of women to nation building, growth and advancement, the Nigerian women have remained marginalized at the highest political space.
The women thereafter demanded for the nomination of females as Deputy Governorship candidate by all the participating Political parties in the November election in Ondo State.
The Communique issued at the end of the women meeting also point to the importance of allotting 35% of appointments in the public sector to women.
