Renowned professors at Adekunle Ajasin University say ethnicity is slowing Nigeria’s technological growth and weakening efforts to tackle insecurity and drive national development.
They made the submission during the institution’s 61st inaugural lecture, stressing that modern security challenges now depend heavily on technology and innovation.
The 61st inaugural lecture of Adekunle Ajasin University brought together academics, students and stakeholders to examine the link between technology, ethnicity and national development.
Delivering the lecture titled “Inhibiting Nigeria’s Journey Towards Technological Innovation,” Professor Nnaoma Iwu argued that ethnic considerations continue to hinder Nigeria’s scientific and technological advancement.
He maintained that competence and merit should take precedence over ethnic balancing in national development.
Other distinguished scholars also lamented the impact of ethnicity on technological growth and urged universities to focus on discovering and nurturing globally competitive talents in science and technology.
