Onitsha Attack: Unknown gunmen kill Police Inspector and 2 others

Three policemen are said to have lost their lives following an attack by gunmen at a checkpoint in Onitsha, the commercial hub of Anambra State, South East Nigeria.

The Command Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga told ait.live in a telephone interview that the attackers drove in a Sienna vehicle and started shooting at the patrol team, along Ukegbu junction by Ezeiweka road in the city center.

One Police Inspector was said to have been shot dead on the spot while two others who sustained gunshot injuries, passed on at the hospital.

The attackers equally set the Police patrol vehicle ablaze.

The Police in the State says it is already on a manhunt for the gunmen while assuring residents of more commitment in delivering their constitutional mandate of protecting lives and property of the people.
