The Senate on Thursday reached a resolution to accelerate the passage of the Petroleum Tankers Safety Bill which had scaled first reading.
The upper legislative chamber reached the decision to accelerate the passage of the bill following a motion by Senator Ifeanyi Ubah (YPP Anambra South) drawing attention to the recent fuel tanker fire in Onitsha market.
The Senate observed a minute silence in memory of the victims who died in the incident, urging the Federal Government to provide financial assistance to the traders.
The red chamber also resolved to accelerate the passage of the Petroleum Tankers Safety Bill sponsored by Ifeanyi Ubah to ensure that fuel tankers on the Nigerian roads comply with minimum safety procedures.
While sympathizing with the victims and people of Anambra State, Senate plans to raise a high-powered delegation to visit the state.
