As Nigeria marks the 2024 National Identity Day, available reports indicate that only 25% of over 8,308,800 population in Bauchi State have so far enrolled and obtained their National Identification Number, NIN.
This was made known by the Bauchi State Coordinator of National Identity Management Commission, Ibrahim Garzo commemorating the 2024 National Identity day in Bauchi.
September 16 is set aside annually by the Nigerian Government to mark the international Identity Day. This is the 6th edition of the celebrations with the theme for 2024 “Digital Public Infrastructure, Enabling Access to Service”.
The members of the Commission while marking the day, took to major streets within Bauchi State capital, using the opportunity to create awareness to residents on the need for them to go and register for their NIN.
They said since inception, a total number of 2,806,045 out of 8,308,800 population estimates according to National Population Commission has so far been captured by the Commission.
Earlier, the Commission staff were in the palace of the Chiroman Bauchi, Nuru Adamu Jumba to brief him on their activities.
They were as well in markets and motor parks for awareness creation as they celebrated the day, calling on the leadership to educate their members on the importance of National Identity cards.
