After several postponements of its congresses due to internal crisis, the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Ebonyi State on Saturday conducted its state congress in Abakaliki where a new leadership emerged.
Onyemachi Peter Nwele who was returned unopposed as the new chairman, is to lead a 39-member State Executive Council of the party in the state.

The Chairman of the State Congress Committee, Ogbonna Ogbonna and the South East zone, National Vice Chairman of the PDP, Ali Odefa said the peaceful exercise was monitored and observed by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC and security agencies.
Odefa debunked claims of the existence of a faction in the PDP at the national level, insisting that power play is a normal thing in party politics.

The newly elected Party Chairman told journalists that he would work to unite the members and rebuild the PDP for victory in future elections.
A former governor of the State, Senator Sam Egwu was among key stakeholders of the party who participated in the congress election.
