Ahead of the September 21, 2024 Local Government Council elections in Kwara State, members of the Action Alliance Political Party (AA) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are protesting the alleged imposition of nomination fees by the Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission (KWASSIEC) on candidates contesting in the elections.

A National leader of the Action Alliance from the State, Mogaji Salman who lead the protest to the premises of the State electoral body on Fate road in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital said the N24.9million nomination fee allegedly imposed on the Party for her 16 Chairmanship candidates and 193 Councilorship candidates, is outrageous, illegal and unacceptable.

At another location, members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) held a Press conference to also condemn the move by the Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission to shut out opposition political parties from fielding candidates in the forthcoming Local Council elections in the State through the imposition of bogus nomination fees. .

Reacting to the allegations, the Chairman of Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission (KWASSIEC), Mohammed Okanla denied imposing the fees on the political parties, maintaining that they were all carried along in the process.

The electoral body chairman however promised the Commission will be transparent and fair to all candidates and political parties in the electioneering process.
