Organised labour in Niger State has given the Federal Government an ultimatum to either reverse the electricity tariff hike, or face a shut down of the dams in the state.
The ultimatum was handed down during a protest to the office of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, in compliance with the directive by the National Executive of the Organised Labour.
The protesters, led by the Chairman of the Niger State chapter of the NLC, Idrees Lafene, the described the hike in the electricity tariff as uncalled for, at a time when the nation is experiencing epileptic power supply.

The Labour leader said Nigerians are facing hardship, due to unfriendly government policies of and the electricity sector should not add to their woes.
Niger State is home to four major dams, namely Shiroro, Kainji, Jebba, and Zungeru, yet the state cannot enjoy at least a 24-hour electricity supply.
The Chairman of the Trade Union Congress, Ibrahim Gana, said they are giving the Federal Government an ultimatum in compliance with the National Executives of organised labour to ei immediately reverse the hike or face the consequences, adding that organised labour will continue to mount pressure on the government, until what he described as the needful, is done.
