In Awka, the Anambra State capital, Southeast Nigeria, Workers have demanded that the Governor Soludo led administration to among other things conduct Local Government Council elections, review upwardly salaries of workers at all sectors as well as provide attractive welfare packages for health workers to stop the “Japa” syndrome of professionals to other countries.
Other issues tabled before the Governor include; the payment of the arrears of pensioners gratuity and the implementation of the new pension law.
The State Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Humphrey Nwafor who presented the position of the Workers at the Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka called on Governor Soludo to order the immediate suspension of the deduction of contributory pension and the reintroduction of wage awards, as measures to cushion the effects of the current economic hardships on the people.
The Deputy Governor, Onyekachukwu Ibezim who represented Governor Soludo in his speech promised the workers that the administration will reconstitute the Board of State Civil Service Commission within seven days and attend very soon to other issues raised by the organised Labour in the State.
