Stakeholders in the health sector have called for a more robust policy that would target the effective health needs of mothers.
The call was made at an 8-day capacity health training workshop to promote maternal, infact and young child nutrition in Osogbo the osun state capital with the commissioner for health Jola Akintola in attendance.
To complement government’s effort in maternal health is the main reason behind this eight day training for health care personnel and providers in Osun state.
The stakeholders here are all gathered with a promise to promote maternal, Infant and young Child Nutrition in the State.
Reflecting on the value of nutrition from mothers to infants, the Minister of health and social Welfare Prof. Ali Pate who was represented by Baoroman Helen emphasized that proper nutrition will enhance adequate growth of infants, particularly at early stage in life
Declaring the training open, commissioner for health Jola Akintola stressed the need for mothers to provide exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months and introduction of nutritionally adequate complementary foods from six months with continued breastfeeding for up to 24 months for their babies.
Participants say Maternal health and good infant nutrition are the cornerstones upon which good health are built for individuals
