Osun State Independent Electoral Commission fixes February 22 for Local Government Election

The Osun State Independent Electoral Commission says all is now set for the scheduled February 22 Local Government Election in the state promising to create enabling environment that will guarantee free and fair contest among participating political parties.

The assurance by the State Independent Electoral umpire is coming amidst a recent judgement of the court of appeal which dismissed a suit filed by the PDP in the state challenging the validity of the october 15, 2022 local government election conducted under the previous administration.

It’s been two years since the last local council election held in Osun State.

The Federal High Court had previously nullified the local govt election conducted by OSSIEC on 15th of October 2022 before the recent court of appeal judgement upturning the federal high Court.

Amidst this development and the announcement by the State Independent Electoral Commission that it will conduct election across the 30 local government areas in the state on Saturday, February 22,2025 , residents have continued to express joy .

On It’s part, the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission, OSSIEC says it is fully prepared to ensure smooth, transparent, and credible process.

Eighteen political parties are expected to participate in the election even as residents raise concerns as to whether the state electoral umpire will deliver on its promise of ensuring transparent and credible process.
