President Alasane Ouattara has been re-elected according to results declared by Côte d’Ivoire’s electoral commission.
The 83-year old scored 89.77% of total votes cast in an election in which those who could have given him a good run such as former international banker, Tidjane Thiam and former President, Laurent Gbagbo were disqualified from costesting last Saturday’s poll.
Ouattara had asked the electorate to keep faith with him despite the controversial extension of his stay, which began in 2011.

Former Commerce Minister, Jean-Louis Billon, who had on Sunday congratulated Ouattara, received 3.09%, while Gbagbo’s former wife, Simone received 2.42%, according to the breakdown of the results released by electoral body.
Turnout was put at around 50% comparable to figues in 2020 and 2015, but way below 80% who voted in the first round of the hugely disputed 2010 election which brought Quattara into office.
