A major indigenous Church group based in North-East Nigeria, Ekklesiyar Yan’uwa a Nigeria, (EYN), has said its church buildings and other assets are still being attacked, while members are also being killed or abducted, despite Federal Government’s claim that it has uncovered the sponsors of insurgency, and is decisively dealing with the menace.

The President of the EYN, Reverend Joel Stephen Billi, said this while addressing members of the denomination, on the challenges bedevilling religious activities, in that part of the country.

The EYN, otherwise called Church of the Brethren in Nigeria, is reputed to have close to one million members, in branches across the North East, and some other locations around Nigeria, and neighbouring countries.

Reverend Joel Billy who said that security around the country has never been in such a sorry state, questioned the Federal Government’s claim of having unearthed the sponsors of insurgency.

The EYN President observed that if truly the Federal Government is fighting insurgency, and has uncovered the sponsors, why then is the war endless?

Speaking about insecurity generally, Billi said, “Nothing seems to improve, as Nigeria citizens have become vulnerable, in the hands of kidnappers, Boko Haram and ritual killers, a situation he termed as anarchy.

He added that the poor, in particular, continue to suffer the brunt of degraded national livelihood, with inflation, for instance, shooting over the roof.

The Church leader lamented that over 170 churches that insurgency has forced to close are yet to re-open, including four District Churches behind the Gwoza Mountains in Borno State.
