A sensitisation campaign for the return of out-of-school adolescent girls to benefit from the free primary and post-primary education of the Taraba State Government has been flagged-off.
Governor Agbu Kefas launched the campaign in Wukari and Gassol Local Government Areas in Southern and Central Taraba State being spearheaded by the State Ministry of Women Affairs and Child Development, across the three senatorial zones of the state.
The Governor who was represented by the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Child Development, Mary Sinjein, called on families and communities to give adolescents and adult women a second chance at the free and subsidised education policy. He emphasised the need to expose cases of gender-based violence.
Adolescent girls in rural Taraba State form a large number of out-of-school children due to various factors ranging from unwanted pregnancies, early marriage, managing the home front, to cases of abuse.

To tackle these barriers and create a safe environment for the girl child to excel in the State the target is to create awareness about gender-based violence and restore hope to out-of-school adolescent girls.
At the campaign in Wukari Local Government Area, 18-year-old Salama Ajiya had her dream of studying Law get closer to reality, with a promise of sponsorship from the Council Chairman and the legislator representing Wukari II in the House of Assembly.
The Taraba State Government’s sensitisation campaign on gender-based violence and restoration of hope for out-of-school adolescent girls in Taraba Central was launched in Mutum-biyu, Gassol Local Government Area.
