Secretary to the Government of the Federation and Chairman, Presidential Steering Committee on Covid-19, Boss Mustapha, says over a million eligible persons have received their first dose of the vaccine, with the second dose assured for citizens.

Mustapha said this during a town hall meeting on Covid-19 vaccination in the North Central geo-political zone organized by the Presidential Steering Committee on Covid-19, in Lafia, Nassarawa State capital.

He said the event is part of an initiative to provide an opportunity to inform citizens, about the progress in vaccination and to address concerns about aspects of the process which began early in March.

The SGF added that the PTF target is to vaccinate at least 70% of the eligible population over a two-year period, to achieve herd immunity, which is scientifically defined to be an interruption of transmission.

Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire, explained that the Ministry is working with key players to ensure that Nigeria benefits from the global supply of WHO-approved Covid-19 vaccines.

The Executive Director, National Primary Healthcare Development Agency, Faisal Shuaib, and Nasarawa state Governor, Abdullahi Sule, noted that the meeting is to reassure traditional, faith, and community leaders that the vaccine is safe for Nigerians.

The town hall meeting is the first of its kind scheduled to hold in all the six geo-political zones of the country.
