Over 40,000 Students with Eye Problems Dictated In Osun State

Osun state Government in South West Nigeria has said that over 40,000 students of public primary and secondary schools are suffering from different sight problems.

This disclosure emerged from the ongoing Imole School Eye Health Programme, a State-backed initiative of Governor Ademola Adeleke, which is aimed at addressing eye-related health issues among students.

The Executive Secretary, Osun Health Insurance Agency (OSHIA), Dr Rasaq Akindele said out of the 340,000 students screened, 42,000 have eye defects.

He added that the affected students, parents and teachers were not even aware of the problem, but for the eye screening exercise conducted by the State government through the Agency which showed that the students are struggling with eye conditions.

Some of the students expressed their gratitude to the State Governor after receiving drugs and a free pair of glasses each.

ait.live reports that the Osun State government funded free eye treatment for pupils and students across the State, covers corrective glasses, medications, and surgical interventions for severe cases.
