Professors from University of Oxford, Harvard University, and University of Cambridge have commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the appointment of Senator Jimoh Ibrahim as Nigeria’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the United Nations.

The academics, in separate reactions, described the appointment as well-deserved, citing Ibrahim’s academic excellence, global exposure, and leadership credentials.

Churchill College, where he earned a doctorate in Business Management in 2023, noted that he completed the programme six months ahead of the approved four-year duration.

Professor Christoph Loch described the appointment as a great honour and praised Tinubu’s “thoughtful and strategic choice,” expressing confidence in Ibrahim’s ability to navigate the complexities of the UN at a critical time.

Professor Othman Cole of the Cambridge Judge Business School commended Ibrahim as a resilient African leader, while Professor Chapman of the Saïd Business School described him as a “superstar.”

Similarly, Professor Mathias Strohn said the appointment was “the right peg in the right hole,” expressing optimism about Ibrahim’s contributions to Nigeria and Africa.

At Harvard University, Professor Richard Ainsworth said Ibrahim would be “a strong and influential voice” at the UN, commending Tinubu for appointing “a brilliant man at the right time.”

Ibrahim’s appointment is seen as a strategic move reflecting his experience in global diplomacy and legislative engagement.

He has been active in international parliamentary diplomacy through the Inter-Parliamentary Union in Geneva, contributing to discussions on governance, peace, security, and sustainable development.

He is expected to leverage this experience to advance Nigeria’s interests in multilateral negotiations and global policy engagements, reinforcing the country’s diplomatic presence at the United Nations.
