The Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, is calling on government and security operatives to investigate and arrest those responsible for the burning down of private hospitals in Oyibo Local Government Area of Port Harcourt.

Briefing newsmen, at the State secretariat ,the NMA Chairman, in Rivers State, Professor Chizindu Alikor said hospitals remain sacred even in war times and should not be attacked so as to continue to provide medical services for the injured

The NMA Rivers State Chairman Chizindu Alikor says little did they know that the once peaceful protests by Nigerian Youths calling for an end to police brutality and good governance in the country, could later be a nightmare following the wanton looting, destruction, maiming, and burning of public and private property including hospitals by suspected hoodlums that hijacked the protests.

Addressing newsmen, the chairman of Nigeria Medical Association, NMA, Rivers State chapter, frowned at the burning of several hospitals at Oyibo in the wake of the protests.

Professor Alikor further stated that despite what their members suffered in the hands of the hoodlums they will continue to render their normal services.

He says as they await the outcome of the judicial panel of enquiry set up by the state government, the association calls for support to cushion the losses suffered by their members.
