It is official that Oyo with 1,264 confirmed Covid-19 cases is now the third state with the highest number in Nigeria just behind the Federal Capital Territory with 1,676 and Lagos State that has 9,741 cases.

Oyo State overtakes Kano State that has 1,191 confirmed Covid-19 cases and was at some point the state with the second highest number of cases in the country until the FCT retook the position about 2 weeks ago on June 10.

Meanwhile, 169 of the 431 Covid-19 patients discharged across Nigeria in the last 24 hours are from treatment centres in Oyo State. Governor Seyi Makinde confirmed the figures on his Twitter handle where he said the State now has a total of 508 discharged cases. The State also lost a patient in the last 24 hours bringing its death toll to 10.

In South West Nigeria, Osun State that for several weeks did not report any new Covid-19 infection except in the last 4 days now has 106 confirmed cases. This leaves Ekiti as the only state in South West Nigeria with less than 100 confirmed cases of the virus.

Katsina State in the North West now has over 500 confirmed Covid-19 cases. This follows 69 new infections that have taken its total to 528.

Nigeria is the country with the third highest number of Covid-19 cases in Africa and it has 23,298 confirmed cases with a total of 8,253 successfully treated and discharged patients while the death toll is 554.
