Palm Sunday in Lagos was marked by colourful processions across Catholic and other Christian churches, symbolising the triumphant entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem.
The day also heralds the beginning of Holy Week, a sacred period of reflection on Christ’s sacrifice, death, and resurrection.
Speaking on the significance of the celebration, the Parish Priest of St. Anthony Catholic Church, Alagbado, Lagos, Reverend Father Vincent Chuwujekwu, described Palm Sunday as a reminder of Christ’s humility and the ultimate sacrifice for the salvation of humanity, urging Christians to emulate Christ’s selflessness.
A parishioner, Popoola Olusola, also highlighted the importance of the day, noting that it reflects both the praise and rejection Christ experienced, symbolising human nature, encouraging believers to remain steadfast in faith and trust in God’s will.
Palm Sunday celebrations in Lagos combined vibrant public processions with deep spiritual reflection, as Christians are reminded to live lives of sacrifice, humility, and unwavering faith during Holy Week.
