There was palpable tension around the High Levels in Makurdi, Benue State’s capital, following the demolition of some illegal structures, owned mostly by handset communication operators, along the Kastina-Ala Street.
Some of the affected GSM operators protested the action, barricading the entire street.

The situation escalated into the burning of tyres on the street, leading to the deployment of security personnel, which eventually calmed down the situation.
