Some parents of the abducted students of the Federal University, Gusau, who are still in captivity, are in Zamfara State to demand the rescue of their children.
The parents are unhappy that their children have spent over seventy days in captivity, with little being done by the government to rescue the students
The kidnap victims’ parents claim that they had met with the vice-chancellor of the Federal University, Gusau, who said there was nothing he could do, than to forward their complaint to higher authorities.
Mohammed Bashir, who spoke on behalf of the victims’ parents, observed that the government and the university management did not take any action because they were poor people, which is why they abandoned their children with the kidnappers.
Bashir confirmed that one of the kidnappers contacted them via telephone and sought ten million Naira ransom which was later reduced to five million.
He said since he couldn’t afford the money, he had not heard about his daughter.
Some mothers revealed that the kidnappers said they could sit only with the government to discuss the issue, which was why they were appealing to the government to assist.
The children were abducted from their rented hostels at the Sabon Gida Community, a few metres away from the university three months ago
