The Nigerian men’s 4×400 metres team has been disqualified from competing in the final of the event.
The quartet of Emmanuel Ojeli, Ezekiel Nathanial, Dubem Amene and Chidi Okezie sealed a place in the final after finishing second in heat 1 behind France.
They ran a season’s best time of 2:59.81.
The Nigerians were, disqualified for stepping on the line in their heat.
Belgium has now moved to second position, with South Africa stepping up to third position.
The quartet’s hopes of emulating the 2000 and 2004 teams that won gold and bronze in Sydney and Athens have now been dashed.
