The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State has condemned the recent attempt by the Benue State House of Assembly to remove the Chief Judge of Benue State.
A Statement by the State Publicity Secretary Tim Nyor said the action represents a gross violation of constitutional principles and undermines the established judicial precedents that safeguard the independence of the judiciary, a cornerstone of our democracy.
The PDP said the illegality of this maneuver raises serious concerns about political interference in the judicial process, posing a threat to the integrity of our democratic institutions and establishing a dangerous precedent for governance in our state.
The PDP said the judiciary must remain the bastion of justice, free from undue influence or coercion by any governmental body, including both the legislative and executive branches.
It also expressed its disapproval of the alleged suspension of certain Assembly members who courageously refused to partake in the aberration at the State Assembly.
The main opposition party said it is troubling that, rather than promote a culture of accountability and integrity, the Assembly seeks to silence dissenting voices advocating for justice and the rule of law.
“The PDP is alarmed by the current administration’s tendency to engage in unnecessary political conflicts while critical issues affecting the lives of our citizens remain unaddressed.

The governor’s focus appears misdirected, diverting attention from pressing needs such as security, healthcare, and infrastructure development.
This preoccupation with political maneuvering detracts from the essential service that the people of Benue State deserve.”The Statement read in part
It therefore invited all its members in the House of Assembly to an emergency meeting, the details of which would be communicated shortly.
The PDP urged all stakeholders to unite in defense of our democracy and the principles of good governance and work together to uphold the integrity of our institutions and prioritize the interests of the people.
