Nigeria’s main opposition People’s Democratic Party(PDP) has delayed its decision on the contentious issue of who to declare National Secretary till the next meeting of the National Executive Committee scheduled for June 30
The second highest organ of the party at Tuesday’s meeting however approved the conduct of its elective National Convention for August 28 to 30 ratifying the composition of committees that will guide the exercise.
Adamawa Governor Ahmadu Fintiri was appointed chairman of the Convention Organising Committee.
Another Committee chaired by Bayelsa Governor, Douye Diri was also ratified to zone party offices for the six geo-political zones ahead of the planned National Convention.
The meeting could not decide on the resolution by its South-East Zonal Executive to adopt Sunday Udeh-Okoye as Acting Secretary to complete the tenure of the office occupied by the zone until the ouster of Samuel Anyanwu
What happens in the PDP between now and June 30 may be more important as key stakeholders including FCT Minister Nyesom Wike were not at Tuesday’s meeting.
Wike has described the meeting as illegal and has pulled out of all agreements to end the protracted crisis in the party.
