After suffering setbacks on three different occasions, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Ebonyi state chapter, Saturday finally held its congress to select the three-man ad-hoc delegates list from the 171 wards of the state.

The election was originally slated for April 30, but was shifted thrice due to allegations of irregularities by some groups within the party.

On Saturday, AIT gathered that the materials for the exercise were distributed at the party’s Secretariat as early as 8 o’clock in the morning, by the congress electoral committee, amidst heavy security presence.

But before the distribution of materials, there were reports of shootings outside the secretariat’s building.

However, the party’s Publicity Secretary in the state, Chika Nwoba, as well as one of the party’s Governorship aspirants, Senator Obinna Ogba, told journalists that there was no cause for alarm, insisting that the election went on smoothly.

As of the time of filing this report, the results of the election are being awaited, but there are indications that the outcome may be a subject of contention by various groups.
