The Abdulrahman Mohamed-led caretaker committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has inaugurated national convention sub-committees ahead of its planned elective convention scheduled for March 29th and 30th, 2026.
The committees are expected to ensure a smooth and credible convention process that will produce a new substantive leadership to steer the party into the 2027 general elections and beyond.
The inauguration ceremony had in attendance key party figures including Caretaker Committee Chairman Abdulrahman Mohamed, National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu, National Organising Secretary Umar Bature, former Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom, former Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, House of Representatives Minority Leader Kingsley Chinda, former National Publicity Secretary Debo Ologunagba, and Senator Natasha Uduaghan-Akpoti, among others.
According to the caretaker committee, the decision to proceed with the convention is backed by the recent Court of Appeal judgement which invalidated the Turaki-led national convention held in Ibadan last year.
The PDP has continued to grapple with internal leadership crises, particularly since the fallout from its 2023 presidential primaries, a situation that has contributed to the defection of several governors and party members to other political platforms.
