A Presidential hopeful on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ovat Ayobam has withdrawn from the race and subsequently threw his weight behind former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar.

Addressing the press at his country home in Bayelsa state capital Wednesday evening, Ayabom said he is withdrawing from the race in other to ensure that the former vice President emerges the candidate of the party in the forthcoming primaries.

“After due consultation with our party leaders and my supporters, i hereby withdraw my ambition to contest for the President of Nigeria under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“It has not been an easy one arriving at this decision but I took it in the interest our party and the good of all Nigerians.

Speaking further he urged the party not to allow few selfish and greedy leaders to hijack the party ahead of 2023 general election stating that Nigerians will not forgive the party if it fields an unpopular candidate for 2023 Presidential election.

It is time to join hands and rescue Nigeria from the claws of APC who have taken the country aback on all indices of development.

“I use this opportunity to plead with PDP governors and other party leaders to join forces with all relevant stakeholders and ensure that a candidate who is popular and has the capacity to win election emerges the candidate of the party ahead of the 2023 general election.

“PDP should focus on winning elections before implementing the rotational policy.

“You cannot share what you don’t have.

Recall that the media has been awash with arguments for and against the rotational Presidency in Nigeria as the general elections draw closer.

The main opposition party in Nigeria PDP has been at crossroads on where it will zone its Presidency.
