Fresh tension has hit the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Enugu State, South-East Nigeria following Sunday’s controversial governorship primary election.
Two parallel exercises have produced two different winners, both claiming victory with over 7,000 votes each.
Samson Nnamani and former Innovation Minister, Uche Nnaji are now locked in a fierce battle for the party’s ticket.

The crisis within the Enugu State PDP boiled over long before delegates cast their ballots
Just 24 hours to the primary election, the state leadership reportedly suspended Samson Nnamani for alleged anti-party activities.
Hours later, a counter-faction retaliated, announcing the suspension of former Minister, Uche Nnaji.
By Sunday, the cracks widened into two parallel primaries. In the first exercise, Samson Nnamani was declared the winner. He reportedly polled over 7,000 votes, while Uche Nnaji got just 121 votes.

But across town, another story was unfolding. Uche Nnaji’s camp organised its own primary election, claiming a matching landslide victory of over 7,000 votes. The state party leadership appears to stand firmly behind Nnaji. However, Nnamani’s loyalists insist their exercise is the only legitimate vote.
With the 2027 general elections on the horizon, the PDP now has the task of resolving this internal showdown, if its bid to take on the incumbent is to be taken seriously.
