The Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) in Katsina State has expressed concerns the 2023 general elections may be stalled, following renewed waves of terrorist attacks in the State and other parts of the country.

The State Chairman of the party, Salisu Majigiri feared that many eligible voters will be disenfranchised in the state during the polls, alleging terrorists’ presence in about 20 Local Government Areas of the State.

According to Majigiri, the security challenges may hinder the success of the 2023 general elections, as many polling units in the frontline local governments are not accessible to the electorate and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC).

The PDP Chairman also said it will be difficult for politicians to go into some of the remote areas to campaign to eligible voters.

Majigiri further called on the State and Federal Governments to wake up to their constitutional responsibility of securing the lives and property of citizens in the State to ensure free, fair, credible and acceptable elections in 2023.

The PDP Chairman also used the medium to announce that the party’s chances of winning the 2023 elections received a huge boost when it recently welcomed over 7,000 defectors from the All Progressives Congress, (APC) and the New Nigeria Peoples Party, (NNPP) in Bakori and Danja Local Government Areas of the State.

Among the defectors were former Director-General of the National Youths Service Corps, (NYSC), Brigadier General Maharazu Tsiga; former House of Representatives member, Sani Dabai, Shehu Dabai; and a brother to the current member representing Bakori/Danja Federal constituency, Hafiz Tukur.

He said the mass exodus from the APC is a reflection of how the party had failed Nigerians.

While assuring the new members that PDP in the State is united and indivisible, the party said it is set to reclaim power from the APC in 2023 even as it told the new members that they will enjoy all the rights and privileges of older members.
